The thirteenth child in his Hong Kong immigrant family, Benson Lai obtained his undergraduate degree in History/Asian American Studies from UC Berkeley. He received his law degree from McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific. Throughout his 11 years of legal experience, Mr. Lai has worked for the government and small/medium- sized law firms in San Francisco, Hong Kong, and Sacramento.

In January 2005, he opened his own law practice specializing in Estate Planning law, Real Estate law, Landlord-Tenant law, Litigation, and Corporate law. Mr. Lai is fluent in Cantonese.
